Calcitonin treatment and plasma prolactin levels in pregnant and lactating ewes.

چکیده
The intravenous injection of a physiological dose of salmon calcitonin (0.5 microgram/kg bw) in 5 ewes on day 125 of gestation induced a slight but significant hypocalcaemia. It had no significant effect on plasma prolactin levels. Ten days after parturition the same dose of salmon calcitonin given in a similar manner to 5 ewes has no effect on suckling-induced prolactin release, although it significantly decreased plasma calcium concentration. This demonstrates that short-term changes in plasma calcitonin concentration have no effect on basal plasma prolactin concentration or on suckling-induced prolactin surge in ewes.

Effect of pheromones on the plasma level of prolactin during pregnancy and lactating periods in female rat
Introduction: Pheromones play a great role in the reproductive and social behavior of animals. The main sources of pheromones are urine and paracrine secretions. Through the neuroendocrine system, prolactin is a safe parameter to measure and compare the effects of pheromones on the sexual, maternal and also lactating behavior. Methods: Female rats were divided into 19 groups (n=8). To measur...
متن کاملThe pharmacokinetics and milk residual behaviour of tylosin in lactating Najdi ewes
The objective of this study was to evaluate kinetics and the residual decline of tylosin in milk and plasma of lactating Najdi ewes following single intramuscular injection of tylosin at the dose of 10 mg/kg. Blood and milk samples were collected from the ewes before and at different time intervals after treatment. Tylosin concentrations were determined by microbiological agar plate assay using...

Glucose production and utilization in non-pregnant, pregnant and lactating ewes.
By using continuous infusions of 3H- and 14C-labelled substrates, three-pool models, incorporating rumen propionate, plasma glucose and blood carbon dioxide were constructed to determine the contribution of propionate to glucose in non-pregnant, pregnant (mid and late) and lactating hill ewes. Although the intakes of non-pregnant and pregnant ewes were the same (1200 g dried grass/d) and result...

In order to determine the effects of fetal growth rate on plasma concentrations of glucose, triglyceride, total protein, and urea in ewes, this experiment was conducted at Animal Research Station of Tehran University Agricultural College. Sixteen pregnant Varamini ewes were allocated to 4 groups (n=4). During the breeding season, ewes of group 1 were mated by Varamini ram, animals in groups 2, ...
